Cohen & Sons is a heritage brand that was originally founded in 1947. Two years ago, the original founder’s grandson Zach Cohen aimed to bring the family brand back to life. Cohen & Sons manufactures quality traditional selvedge denim jeans right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Nearly three minutes in length, the “Denim Craft” brand film sheds light on the beauty of the denim manufacturing process and illustrates how much effort by individual craftsmen goes into every single pair of jeans. LA-based advertising photographer and director Dean Bradshaw directed the short, capturing the beauty and intricacy of each stage in highly stylized abstraction. Similar to the intricacy of the denim process, “Denim Craft” was a collaboration of extremely talented individuals. David Andreini of Cutters Studios Los Angeles edited the piece to showcase the process in a linear fashion, presenting each step from an alluring and unique POV. To complement the video, sound engineer Snacky Pierce approached the composition by using a blend of production effects and orchestral-derived recordings, and deconstructed the sounds to create an abstracted visceral experience. Finally, to tie the video together and solidify the artistic atmosphere, Gregory Reese in collaboration with The Mill studios creatively colored the footage, illuminating key elements throughout the denim production process while shrouding others to heighten curiosity.
